About

IL32 is a contemporary apartment in Turin, Italy. It is owned and designed by the creative duo Ilenia Notarangelo & Luca Gonnelli, founders of the design studio ILLO

It has been selected by Open House Torino and it is available for rent in selected dates through Airbnb.

THE BUILDING

The origins of this apartment dates back in 1846, when the main building was created, designed by Carlo Ceppi (that in 1861 also worked on the Torino Porta Nuova railway station). The building was an example of social housing in the -back then new- district of Borgo Nuovo. The west-wing of the apartment is included in the ancient building.

During the sixties, the layout of the building has been extended through the construction of a simple, industrial tenement, that served as typography & glassworks workshop. This is the current north-wing of the apartment (the loft area).

In the 1980, it turned in a private club, with a bar and selection of board games.

The apartment

The two sections were finally united into one unique apartment by former owner and architect Elvira Gennarelli.

The house is -thus- based on a dualism - the  ancient area, with its fireplace and the old wooden beams, and the loft area of the living room, strongly characterised by its industrial windows.

PRINCIPLES

Working as digital designers, we approached our second interior design project in the most familiar way we know: starting by illustrating how we pictured the house should become.

The apartment reflects and expresses the design style that characterises our own aesthetic and that of our studio ILLO: cleanness and minimalism, with a few bold elements + our love for simple geometry.

TECH

Technology and domotics is a central aspect of the house.

Based on Insteon switches and buttons - the whole electrical system is connected to the internet, allowing any light to be switched on and off remotely through an app. Lights can gently switch on in the morning, or you can turn them off by saying "Good night".

Thanks to three Sonos speakers around the house (in the living room, in bathroom and in the bedroom) you can be awaken by your

favorite radio show or Spotify playlist. You can change music with the app, and you'll continue to hear it without gaps while you go from room to room.

Drinkable water supply in the apartment is managed through the kitchen faucet. The Grohe Blue Home system provides clean, filtered, cold, sparkling or still water at the touch of a button. That helps reduce our footprint by completely eliminating the use of plastic bottles.
